Yamaha Raptor 90 ATV is specially designed for young riders with a speed limit of 15-18 mph to make their riding experience more joyful. And when it comes to inexperienced riders, safety is the first thing we all want in such rides. Yamaha Raptor 90 again didn’t disappoint us here as it allows several adjustable safety features that enable limiting the speed and power for inexperienced riders.
Today, I’ll briefly discuss some facts about the Yamaha Raptor 90 top speed, its speed limiter features, and how to adjust them.
Yamaha Raptor 90 Top Speed
As its name suggests, Yamaha Raptor comes with a 90 cc single-cylinder engine and a fully automatic CVT transmission. Although I have mentioned above that its speed can go up to 15-18 mph, its top speed limit is around 30mph. But it will take some adjustments to get there because of its two different speed limiters.
How to Make Yamaha Raptor 90 Faster?
Adjust The Speed Limiter Features
Even if its speed limit of 15mph is safe for beginners, it can also be disappointing for many owners as this speed could cause difficulties while riding to top steep inclines. This is all because of its two pre-installed speed limiter safety features, but the good thing is that you can adjust them easily according to your convenience.
Throttle Limiter
Next is the throttle limiter, which is integrated to prevent the throttle when the throttle lever is pushed to its maximum. On the back of the box, you’ll find the adjustment screw used to turn out and loosen to increase or decrease the machine’s speed and power.
You can use the locknut to loosen it, and all you have to do is try to keep it in its place before turning the screw in the clockwise movements.
Engine Speed Limiter Plate
Lastly, we also got an engine speed limiter plate to limit the engine’s power and max RPMs. The engine speed limiter plate is incorporated under the plastic CDI Box seat. By default, the engine is limited to 4900 RPMs, and on removing, it can reach 8500 RPMs and double the acceleration and top speed. You can remove the limiter plate by loosening the two screws that keep the small metal plate in place and taking it off.
But if you’re a young rider, I would recommend you to loosen the throttle limiter screw gradually until you are used to the quad-core. Once you feel like you’re experienced enough, you can retighten the throttle limiter and gradually loosen it again as riders get used to the new speed and power of the machine.
So, in short, by fully adjusting the throttle limiter and removing the engine speed limiter plate, you can make your Raptor 90 hit top speeds of 25 -30 mph and easily climb steep hills.
Quick Tips:
If you’ve just bought the Yamaha Raptor 90 or planning to buy it, I would recommend that for the 15 hours of use, take it easy with their quad and not do anything to reach the top speed. as at the initial stage, the various parts of the takes times to work properly.
But if even after waiting for a broken-in period and adjusting to the speed limiters, it is still unable to reach a top speed of around 30 mph, you should try these things:
- Replace the front and rear sprockets, as making a change to a smaller rear sprocket, and a bigger front sprocket will help.
- Run a high-octane gas in your Raptor 90, preferably 91 or 93 octanes, as it may result in higher performance and speed.
- Ensure the tires are fully inflated, and tire pressure for both the front and rear tires is 3.6 psi.
- Check the spark plug and if necessary, replace the plug with a high-performance iridium spark plug.
Conclusion
The 30mph Yamaha Raptor 90 top speed could be a downside for the many owners who are inexperienced and want to ride it safely. They can initially limit the speed and power of this model.
Conversely, young riders who believe in themselves and want their ride to be more enjoyable can reach the top side with simple adjustments to speed limiters.
